I have a critter trail cage and I have washed it in the dishwasher...TOP RACK ONLY. The bottom is too hot and may melt/warp the plastic.
If your machine has a "light wash" option...use that.
No, and it's not the dishwasher you should be worried about. I worked at petsmart for a year and I have to say I hate critter trail cages. For one, cleaning is very difficult. Which is probably why you are considering shoving the cage in the dishwasher. You have to ask yourself if you really want to be cleaning something with poo all over it where you will be cleaning your dishes even if you were able to put this cage in the dishwasher. Another thing to consider is that your hamster likes to chew on plastic, making this cage a time bomb. More than likely your hamster will escape from this cage. I would say forget about the critter trail and get a wire cage. It's safer for your pet and easier to clean.

do not put any part of any thing for animals in a dishwasher...first of all, it will melt...second of all.it uses soap and the hampster will get sick..trust me ive done it...best thing to do is just use water and scrub it down..

I've never seen one, even in exotic shops, but that would be the place to look.
You need to find some that have been hand raised for your best chance to have a pet that you can handle.
I'm pretty sure you also would need a permit, since they are considered wild animals, not domesticated pets ( same are most squirrels, possoms and racoons )

I would seggest finding a wildlife rescue group in your area and talk to them about it to find out the exacts on cotton rats. See if it's legal and find out what you need to do to keep one.
They are not going to be your average rodent, they will take a lot of work and space. So if you're not looking into getting a rat that is going to take a lot of time, money, work and patients, I suggest getting a fancy rat instead...

Are chinese dwarf hamsters strong or big enough to run around in a mini run around ball? I got two chinese hamsters a week ago and they run in the wheel everyday but they dont seem to want to run around in the balls, they just groom themselves? Any suggestions on how to get them to run around?

Are cheerios safe for dwarf hamsters?
i have a dwarf hamster, i've been feeding it cheerios for about three months. nothing has changed physicllay exept if i give him more than 3 or 4 (which is rare) he gets fat suddenly so then i dont feed him any for a day or two. please say in your answer if you have a dwarf hamster. thanks

Generally Cheerios are safe for them, but It seems to be "bloating " him up. Try using real hamster feed and tiny cut up veggies and fruit instead.
No raw beans,tomatoes,garlic, onions,chocolate
any sugary or salty foods.
Okay. I do not have a dwarf hamster, but I did babysit two for about two months. I never fed them cheerios, however, I do have gerbils, which I DID feed cheerios. They seem to be fine. Make sure the cheerios you feed them are regular, not frosted or anything, and look to see how much sugar it has in it. I think your hamster will be fine if you feed him cheerios as a treat. PLEASE do not feed your hamster cheerios, frosted flakes, anything. Do not feed it human food. You want to know why it gets fat suddenly? Because of the sugar in the cheerios. They have tiny hearts that beat MUCH MUCH faster than ours and if it beats any faster they can suffer a little heartattack or their heart can literally explode. Too much sugar will give it a sugar rush and it can kill them. I'm sure a little while after eating them he has trouble breathing after his heart slows back down.
Feed him hamster pellets, which are specially formulated for his body, and keep the cheerios for yourself.

Hamsters can eat cereal as long as it has no added salt or sugar on it. A few cheerio's everyday wont cause weight gain for your hamster, but if he likes sunflowerseeds and nuts, this might!

(People often allow their pet birds to eat human breakfast cereal too and I say the same thing again. It is not good. It's all natural but it is not actually in the natural form, it is stripped. It causes loose stools a.k.a "the runs".)
