Are Hampsters fun?

That sounds like a stupid question, but I was so physced to get one, but my mom totally ruined it for me, saying that hamsters are boring and they just sit there and don't do anything. Is that true? Do you think a hamster would be any fun?
Answers:
Or course hamsters are fun, if your idea of fun is adorable cuteness. No they don't just sit there. They make nests to sleep in, they chew things, they eat using both hands, the run on their wheels, they play with toys, they fall asleep in your pockets, they run around your room when they get let out and get into trouble...
Heres some videos on youtube of hamsters not doing nothing.
Or doing almost nothing yet being incredibly cute.

Hamsters are crepuscular, not nocturnal. That means they are awake during the evening and morning, ironically when people are most likely to be home.
Hamsters from petstores are not tame, and so will be fearful and may bite. You'll need to leave your hamster alone for a day because of stress. Then you'll need to sit by its cage until it gets used to you, they put your hand in its cage, then get it to take food from your hand, they touch it, then get it to sit in your hand for food rewards, and finally pick it up. This all should take about a week but the effort is worth it. Hamsters that are tame don't usually bite, but they might. Cats, dogs, rats, and snakes also sometimes bite.
Hamsters are... Ok. The ones I've had tend to like to run away, despite my attempts to hand-tame them. If you got a friendly one, it might be different. I had much more fun with lab rats, the kind people feed to snakes.
It truly depends on what you define as fun. If watching a small fury animal run around a maze for about 20 minutes and curling into a ball and sleeping is fun; Then you're in for tons of it.
They are Ok but they are a bit backward when it comes to having a sense of humour, you might have to explain all your jokes to them several times.
Oh yeah and dont expect them to buy any drinks at the bar either
they are fun if you want hem to be. what i mean is if you just put it in the cage and never play with it it will be boring but if you play with it every day it will be fun.
YES THEY ARE. I USED TO RAISE ABOUT 70 OF THEM ALL AT ONE TIME.U CAN HOLD THEM TOO. JUST WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER U EAT AND WAIT ABOUT AN HOUR BEFORE U TOCH OR HOLD THEM.THEY WILL SMELL THE FOOD AND BITE.BUT THEY ARE FUN!TRUST ME.
I have a dwarf hampster and I love him. You have to be careful with hampsters because you may not get one that's hand-tamed, but if they're good to handle then you can have all sorts of fun with them. When I was younger I made mazes and tunnels and had all sorts of fun with them. They have awesome stuff at the pet stores like wheel-racecars.
Now that I'm older its actually really nice to have a low effort pet. I don't have to take him out and play with him everyday, he's got a wheel and I can put him in his ball to give him more free time outside the cage. Best of all, dwarf hampsters do very well by themselves so there's no worries of extra babies!
They're a lot more fun if you happen to be nocturnal. Hamsters like to sleep all day and do their best to keep you awake all night...usually by chewing non-stop on something in their cage. If you want a small furry pet that won't be half asleep and grumpy when you reach in to pick it up...get a gerbil. Same size, same furry coat, longer tail.won't keep you up at night.
i have a hamster and she it lots of fun train her to do tricks! buy her a rolling ball and let her roll around! i have lots of fun and go to petco . com and see when the hamster race is there is a hamster race and that is fun and other fun stuff to do with your hamster! buy one and join the fun.
i enjoy having my hamster. they are very sweet and soft, but be careful that the bite. now i am regretting getting mine!
When I was 13, I got a hamster. I hated the thing! It was up at all hours of the night on that stupid wheel. And the thing like to bit.
I would suggest a pet rat. They sleep when you sleep, you can put them on your shoulder and walk around. It you are playing at your computer, you can have it run around your desk. Toys are cheap! Toilet paper and paper towel rolls are the best. I had two pet rats and they were awesome. I think they are the best rodents to get.
Dunno about hamsters, but Rats really actually play with you.
I had a black bear hamster and they are hand raised and dont bite and mine was a sweetie! whenever i cleaned his cage, i would set him on my bed and he would never jump off or fall off. he would just run around my bed sniffing stuff. aww he was adorable. but i like them a lot. i didnt think mine was boring. good luck!
it depends on the personality of your critter. it can't do tricks like a dog and they wont be as affectionate as a cat but if you like something that is small and fury and you dont mind either watching it run around or sit in your hand then i say get one.
Hamsters are sooo much fun to play with and watch dont listen to your mom hamsters are the best!
well it depends how much time your willing to play with it. hamsters sleep all day and are awake all night. If the hamster has no time outside his cage he will be biting the cage all night (and i read that this was bad for them, this little tidbit im not sure), and if you have him in the room with you then you'll get annoyed. BUT if you put the time to let him out and play with it by either letting it run around or hand feeding and letting him play inside his ball, then yes they are fun.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!! All they do is eat, sleep, bite, bite, bite, bite, bite, bite, bite, bite, and bite!! I've had one before, and I know this for a fact! But, if you really want to get one, here's all the requirements for one:
You need hamster pellet food, fruits and vegetables, a fairly large cage, (not too small) spruce or aspen shavings, (no cedar or pine please!) timothy hay, water and bottle, and a dish that cannot be tipped over.
I'm sorry, but I HAVE to agree with your Mom on this one! HAMSTER'S SUCK!
I love our hamster so much we just got another one my daughter bought a ball and at Petco they have hamster races her hamster won I suggest it
yes they are you can teach them tricks and much more
well http://hamsterhideout.com/ can tell you that it tells you how to care for and stuff its easy so you decide if they are fun and look on the left and there is a book that says all about hamsters go there
hamsters are NOT boring and they DO NOT just sit there. mine is so fun to watch he runs on his wheel, plays with his toys, rings his bell that hangs from the top of his cage, and more. hamsters are fun to watch. but remember they're nocturnal and may bite if waken
Yeah~!
Hamsters are very active~! They run around, interact with you, and sometimes cheer you up when you are down, hamsters are just like animals, they can feel how we feel. And they can be a joy to all, they are very adorable and fun to play with. they are also curious creatures too. :)
Good Luck :)

Yes! Hamsters are amazing.
If you want one that will be more active, try going with a dwarf hamster, they have a lot of energy, and mine is awake at random points in the day, not just at night, so I can play with her whenever I have time!
However, they are work, too. And even on the days when you have things to do that are "more fun" your hamster will still need love and attention.
My parents tried to do the smae thing to me but i got one anyway, they are fun...i entered mine in soemthing called the HampLympics in my neighborhood... we trained our hamsters in 5 diffrent events running, climbing, digging, eating and show. it was so fun training my hamster for all the things and she became very smart and i just kept giving her more things to learn so then i entered my pet in a state wide competetion and she lost but did good. it was really fun to train my hamster and she became my bestfriend and we did lots together. Your mom is not being mean she is just worried that you will get bored with it and then it will die or soemthing so i would be careful maybe see if u can take care of a friends for a while andsee if you like it or not!
they sleep all day, but are up from say 8pm on.
