are they happier and healthier?
Answers:
NO! Absolutly not! Hammies (sadly) are solitary animals. They tend to be VERY territorial and CAN and WILL fight to death.
I can tell you from personal experience... 6 years ago when i was 10 i got 2 hamsters and put them in a cage together.one started biting the other. We took the one that was attacking back to the store and kept the other one (SNOWBALL! =]])
You CAN however buy 2 hamsters in seperate cages.
Also if you WANT 2 hamsters together then you can TRY but they MUST be from the same litter (same mom and dad at the same time) and they would have had to be together from birth. They can be kept together as babies but as they get older they can go seperate directions...fight or become very close. you can NEVER TELL.
If you decide to do this then you can Stay awake with them for a week or so to make sure they DONT FIGHT.but why go through the hassle?
good luck! If you have anymore questions feel free to email me!
DO NOT PUT 2 HAMSTERS IN A CAGE, THEY LIKE TO BE ALONE AND WILL FIGHT WITH ANY OTHER HAMSTER IN THEIR CAGE!
nobody like to be alone..make it 2
hamsters are solitary animals so they prefer to be alone.
from what I've heard from my friend, hamsters can and will kill each other over time. So keep one and make sure you give it a lot of attention.
I think that having 2 hamsters is a good thing, but the backfire if you get 2 males they will fight until one dies.If you get a male and female it could turn out better. Also you might not want to get a male and female together unless you want to breed them.
Serians need to be kept solitary, however dwarfs can be kept together if they are put together while they're young.
If they are dwarf hampters they are a lot happier. If theye are the normal kind of hampters they tend to eat each other.
No, they will kill each other. Drawrf hamsters are mine together though. If you happen to get gerbils instead, get 2, because they tend to get lonely. So NO only get one hamster.
P.S- Touch, rodents are MUCH different then people. People don't like to be alone, but hamster's do. You have to be the animal to know about them,
If you have a very nice big cage most will do well together.
Two females will be best friends and not have any issues.
A fixed male (and it's very cheap and easy for a vet to fix a male) and a female will also do great together. But you never want to put a normal male in as they will breed and the female could die.
Two males with at least one or both fixed will do well but will need an even bigger cage then what the other two pairs would need.
Most rodents do better when kept in pairs. If there's enough room normally any number of females will do well together. If you can get the males fixed they can do well with groups of females and other groups of fixed males. However you don't want to put more then one non-fixed male with anything more then one fixed male as then their might be problems.
The key to this however is having a very big cage, if you just have a normal size, or even big size store bought cage they will fight and kill eachother.
If they are Dwarfs then two of them is great just make sure that you check for any signs of fightings such as blood. One will be slightly more dominant so don't worry.
If they are Robos, I've seen them in colonies up to five.
Syrians, which are the most popular type of hamster, are the solitaires ones. I've seen them live together with others but usually because they were litter mates. But normally only one.
Make sure that they are the same sex otherwise you'll have like 12 more hamsters.
It doesnt matter but if you want 2 you have to get them from the same litter and same sex or they will fight or have sex
Well, it depends in which type of hamster you get. If you get a dwarf, you can get 2. If you get a Syrian, get ONLY 1 because they are VERY territorial! If you want to get 2 Syrians, put them in different cages, or they fight! Hope you get a good hamster!
No. Do not keep two hamsters together. They are solitary creatures and will fight to the death if kept together.
In pet stores they can keep them together because it's only temporary housing and they hamsters are still young. As soon as they get older they will fight. However they still shouldn't be kept together but pet stores are also cheap. They don't want to put each hamster is a separate cage. Often times you will see two hamsters fighting at a pet store.
Sometimes two female dwarf hamsters can be kept together, but it's only a chance. They may end up fighting and need to be separated.
It's best to just get and keep one hamster per cage. Just take it out and play with it lots if you are afraid of it getting lonely.
are you crazy!?!??!don't you know the hamster are solitary they don't live at the same cage if they do they will fight to death though some hamster don't fight but baby hamsters don't fight if put in same cage
of course they like to be alone in a single cage :-)
Syrians live alone, they will kill another hamster, dwarfs live in pairs.
