About the guinea pig's vit. c?

i know that oranges and other foods have some vitamin c in it but i dont want to give them two many oranges because fruit is supposed to be in moderation. but is two slices a week enough? and ive heard of vit.c tablets and chews but were can you get them? petco or petsmart? also the brands and names of them would help when i buy them. thank you
Answers:
broccoli is good too
give it a mixture of fruit and veg, no need for supplaments
Please don't use the Vitamin C supplements like tablets or water drops. They are simply unneeded and can cause the guinea pig to dislike the water, which in turn causes dehydration.
Vegetables are the best way to go. I feed our girls romaine lettuce, bell peppers, cilantro, ect. They also love to eat corn husks and silks, the outer edges of melons, carrots, and cherries without pits. These last few things are treats and given to the guinea pigs sparingly. Fruits also follow under the treat category, like oranges.
This Guinea Lynx article refers you to the vegetables that the guinea pigs can eat ( http://www.guinealynx.com/diet_vegs.html... )
I have a guinea pig. I give him one orange slice every other day. I sometimes give him these pills sometimes that are Vitamin C pills. Here is all of the information on the container that they are in:
Oxbow Pet Protucts: GTN-50C
Vitamin C supplements for small animals

I hope that this helps! My guinea pig eats them (not right when he gets it, but he ends up eating it like at night!). Good Luck!
A good variety of veggies will give your pigs all the vitamin C they need. However if you don't think they are getting the vitamin c that they need, you can supplement. DO NOT PUT IT IN THEIR WATER! Some people are going to tell you to do that, and they are wrong! Vitmain C weakens in water and it changes the taste of the water where some pigs won't drink it. You also can't monitor how much each pig is getting.
If you want to supplement, you can order tablets or drops from Oxbow. These should be given directly to the pig. You could also go to GNC and buy chewable tablets. They cost about $15 for a big bottle of 100 mg tablets. I am only half done with the bottle and I bought it in February. I break these into fourths and give them to my boys as treats. They love them! I usually give it to them while I wash their veggies to keep them from wheeking like crazy!!
Hi...
Guinea pigs need at least 10mg of vitamin c (40mg is better) and at least 20mg a day if they are pregnant.
No two slices isn't enough and by using the following site you will be able to find out why...This site shows a list of foods and the amount that you have to use of each item to get the daily 10mg of vitamin c that they need;
http://www.aracnet.com/~seagull/guineas/...
Alternatively you could use this calculator to calculate how much vitamin c they are getting:
http://www.guinealynx.com/calculator.xls...
You can get vitamin c enriched pellets, vitamin c tablets or vitamin c liquid that you put in their water. Now the pellets are good but you will need to have some other vitamin c enriched fresh produce as well. There is pretty much no point in getting the liquid because:
a) they don't like it
b) it doesn't work, the vitamin c is often sucked out of the water and doesn't have any affect.
The tablets are ok if given directly as is the drops that you can get, I found that with my girls they prefer not to have it and get the vitamin c from the fruit and vegetables that I give them.
The following foods are high in vitamin c:

Good Luck:)
You can go to petsmart and by vitamin drops to put in the wate rbottle. I found these the best way to provide enough vitamin c for my piggys
A good variety of veggies and some fruit in the diet will work fine.
NO DROPS IN THEIR WATER! Vitamin C breaks down in water after awhile, losing its effectiveness, and perhaps changing the taste so the pig doesn't drink as it should. Also, you have no idea how much the pig is actually getting.
They have treats that have it in them like yogurt drops which look like little kisses! OR even drops to put in the water. This can be found near where the food and other things are for small critters.
