Adopting another Rabbit?

I was wondering what are some consequences if I don't get another rabbit? I already have one, but I'm afraid he might get lonely because they are social animals. Also, what other places could I get a rabbit. I don't want to get one from a petstore and the humane society doesn't have any rabbits. Also I know about the House Rabbit Society. Are there any other places in GA?
Answers:
Think of buying another rabbit as an 'added luxury' to the one you already have. It wont be unhappy without company, but if you so get another one, it will just have someone to play with. If you are devoted to your current rabbit, and have enough time to care for and play with it a lot, you dont need to buy another one.
There are no consequences, I had a single rabbit for 8 yrs. He was healthy and always friendly and playful. Unless you really want another rabbit, save yourself from more work.
I don't think that you need another rabbit. If you put a rabbit with another rabbit, they could easily fight. Only littermates are really good when it comes to rabbits. As long as you let your rabbit out for at least 20 minutes each day, and you play with it, your rabbit should be fine!
i have one rabbit too.she is Felicita.i love her.i know that when two rabbits are together they usually fight.i don't know but i want to get one more.maybe...what do u think?
Accually I Would Say Its Easier To Have Only 1 Rabbit. I Have 2, But Its A LOT of work. And It Depends Really, Because If you have a male bunny right now, you cant put a male rabbit in with him, and unless you want baby bunnies, then you dont want a female either. If you have a female, you may not want to put another female, because they will fight. And as I said you may not want babies so you might not want a male and a female. Males Will Definatly Fight. But Females MAY Not , Ussually They do. I Have 2 Males. But They Are in Differant Cages. But No, There Arent Any Consequences.
You don't have to get a second rabbit to keep your first rabbit happy. In fact, rabbits don't always get along with each other. They are very very social animals, complete with a social hierarchy. Sometimes they can't work out dominance with each other or are just more aggressive about their territory and they won't ever be friends and can actually hurt each other. Having said that, I have one bonded male/female pair and one female/female pair that I am bonding a male into. The girl from the male/female pair is highly aggressive and has even severely injured one of the other girls before when I was trying to bond them all together.
Before you decide if you want a second rabbit, make sure you have the space, time, and money to keep it. That includes the possibility of keeping it separate for the rest of it's life. And read up on bonding rabbits. Here are some great links:

Also, even if they are the same gender you do need to have them both spayed/neutered. This not only prevents pregnancy and uterine cancer but decreases the hormones that make them territorial.
Have you looked for rabbits near you on Petfinder? I see there is a HRS chapter in GA, as well as several shelters and rescues that have rabbits too. If they are too far you can also try calling other shelters in your area- they don't always advertise their rabbits. Or the HRS or other rescues might be willing to help with transporting a rabbit to you.

Petfinder.com is a GREAT website to look at! That's how we found both of our bunnies!
Good luck with the adoption! :o)
hi all,
it would be very irrisponsible to get another rabbit at this point!
I raise rabbits at my house and have found that rabbits will fight each other especially 2 or more bucks and a combo of a buck and a doe.
the most gentle would be 2 does. but, that will eventiually result in a major fight.
also if u make a mistake and get a buck and a doe they will fight to the death once she gets pregnant.

a rabbit can be trained like any other animal to use a litter box and come, sit and stay.
I have nine rabbits in my house and just as soon as i get in the door it gets noisy.
the only thing that quiets them down a picking them up out of their cage and sitting in my recliner w/ a brush and brushing each one and watching tv.
they like a little nose rub and full head rub. if u do this u will find your bunny will meat u at his door for u to pick him up.
