hi i have a guinea pig question and i was wondering if it would be ok to keep a guinea pig in a plastic hard container it is really big it could probley fit 5 guinea pigs in there but i only want one and would it be alright to only get one guinea pig
Answers:
I already answered your question about the plastic tub last week, so you know what my response is---a C%26C cage would be much more spacious, easier to clean, and provide the proper ventilation that a plastic tub would not.
As far as the number of pigs, it would be much better if you had two. They are herd animals %26 like to be with others of their own kind. Please be kind to your piggie and make sure he/she has a same-sex cage mate.
Hi there,
My best friend keeps her piggies in a plastic rabit hutch, and as long as yours meets the recommended measurements then I can't see the problem!
I would suggest that you buy two guinea pigs, as they are very friendly pets and rely a lot on each other for companionship. They are also much happier together, and I have noticed that they seem to live longer if they have a friend!
Make sure that you buy your guinea pigs from the same litter, so as to avoid fighting! I would also recommend that you buy female pigs as they don't get as aggressive! Or you can have male guinea pigs neutered, but this can cost up to 拢50 per pig!
Good luck and hope all goes well!

yes it will but the guinea pig will probly be happier with a playmate but two guinea pigs arent gurenteed to get along
eww ewww ewww
Sorry I dont like guinea pigs but it probably should be ok for you to do so.
Good luck.
The biggest concern you'd have to keep an eye on is ventilation. Personally, I would not recommend a plastic container. Cages with solid (not grated, like ferret and some rabbit cages) bottoms are best. Ideally, 7.5 square feet is best PER PIG. Consider checking out Guinea Pig Cages.com for some great ideas on making your own cage. They have wonderful pictures as well. Good luck!
It is fine as long as it has air holes in it. Also have you thought about how you are going to put the water bottle in there. I think they make water bottles with suction cups that you can stick to the side of it. Just make sure the guinea pig has access to everything it needs. It is perfectly fine to just have one.
it sounds like the container you have will work. personally i suggest getting 2 guinea pigs. you wouldnt want it to get lonely!! good luck!
Yeah! No problem! We used to do that and we have 5 guinea pigs. Just as long as they can have bedding, food, and a waterbottle, they are fine. We used to do it.
You can get one guinea pig, but they are social animals and you should spend time with it. They do fine on their own (actually, when they are on their own, they seem to play more with toys and are able to learn tricks faster). ;D
It is ok, Especcialy if it is a male, Males are known tofight and sometimes kill the other male. It is ok to keep one Guinea pig if you are going to play and be its campanion. But if your not going to pay to much attention or if your going to loose interest then get a freind, But only if it's a girl with a girl. If its a male then one is OK. Goodluck
No, it's not a good idea. It would be like making you live in a big port-a-potty. There is not enough ventilation even in the biggest plastic tubs. Your pigs will be inhaling the bedding aromas and their own pee smells 10 times worse than in a real cage. Your pigs will be more prone to respiratory infections and other problems.
The biggest plastic tubs are not even close to big enough for one pig. You need a minimum of 7.5 sq. feet (sounds bigger than it really is).
Will it kill your pig to live in a tub? Possibly not. Is it good for your pig? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
It's all about you, do you just want your pig to survive or do you want a healthy pig?
C%26C cages are cheap, big, and you can design them anyway you want. Please consider making one of these for you piggie.
Addition: You have asked this question at least 3 times. It's not going to change in a week, it's still not a good idea.
No. There is not enough airflow and has bad ventilation.
I agree about C%26C cages (^ to the answerer above ^)
yes as long as its high enough that they can climb out my pigs can climb ontop of a breeze block no problem.also this box wont have a lid on will it?it should have mesh or something to ventilate it or the pigs could suffer.my pigs have a converted avairy.the have breeze block walls to enclose it and mesh front to the roof of the shed like you would use to keep birds in for lots of air to circulate.also they have upvc cladded walls for easy cleaning.we thought long and hard about how to do the enclosure that was best for pigs not cheapest for us.we spent a lot on cladding alone!the floor is normal patio flags covered in wood shavings.
two pigs would be better.some of the guinea pig cages are basically just a hard plastic container.so urine wont soak into it,which is more hygeinic.also make sure cats or rats cant get to your pigs or they will kill them.
I have to disagree with everyone who has said it should be fine. Even the largest of plastic tubs is too small. You should have AT LEAST 28 inches x 42 inches for a single pig or AT LEAST 28 inches x 56 inches for 2 piggies (same sex). The larger you can make the cage the better.
As a matter of $$$$. The largest plastic tub I have ever seen is a 70 quart at Target. At 14-2/5Hx16-1/4Wx26-1/10L it is almost large enough but then you have the ventilation issues to deal with and on top of that it is $45! You can buy a box of grids (from the orginization section also at Target) for $15. There are enough grids to make a 2 grid (28 inch) by 4 grid (56 inch) cage. You should be able to find a 4x8 sheet of coroplast (corrugated plastic) at a sign shop for around $20 dollars. It is terribly easy to assemble and WAY more fun to watch the piggies in than some stuffy old tub.
And you could only get one pig, but don't you like having friends around? Your piggy does too so get a same sex pair or make sure one of them is spay/neutered.
It wouldnt be a really good idea because they like to chew and they could start chewing on the plastic and if they do possibly a pice could get lodged in his thoat and choke
