About Fancy Rats?

What is better to get a male or female?
Which one is friendlier?
Which one smells less?
Answers:
There are pros and cons to both actually. The females have a higher chance of getting cancerous tumors due to their estrogen levels. As a result, they don't live quite as long as the males. Males have a bit more odor to them, but are more friendlier than the females. I'd go with a boy.
I think they both smell about the same... and they are both friendly although I actually prefer the males to females they are way more mellow!... :)
female she will be nicer and more playfule and she will clean her self better.. so that means she will stink less
It doesnt matter they are both about the same. I have a female, her name is Izumi and she is the best pet I have owned.
ummm...theyre both rats what else is there to know? or want to know????
A female.Females Are Usually More Friendlier,And Both Smell About The Same.
Females tend to be more active, energetic, and playful.
Males tend to be more laid-back and relaxed.
Both are equally good, it all depends on your tastes. Apparently, though, some male rats can become bitey if not neutered--I don't know how common this is, if it's true.
As for smell, males tend to have a stronger scent, but you can't really smell either one unless you put your face right up to them.
Males are more lazy and just alright with hanging out in your lap. Females are more active and want to run around. Usually.

Male or better because femlaes love to play play play, Male and femlaes are very friendy. Female smell less for sure!!
I have a male now but i think if i could go back i might get a female. Males tend to pee all over everything (marking territory) its gross..
I think that they make equally good pets, I myself had a male and he was a really snuggly little guy. Rats don't actually smell... it's their urine. Males have a stronger urine smell. If you pick up a rat and it smells it's because it's been living in it's own urine soaked enclosure. The moral of this answer, clean your rat cages thoroughly every 2-3 days. Unless you want to be holding your rat that is covered in it's own excretions!
WHOA I really went too far with this answer.
It all depends on personal preference.Males tend to be bigger, females tend to be smaller. Males are usually more mellow while females are more active, meaning they're pretty entertaining, but if you're looking for a rat to sleep in your pockets or cuddle, a male is what you want. However, females become more laid-back with age.
Males can get kind of smelly due to overactive hormones, but neutering fixes that. Females are more prone to tumors, but spaying reduces that possibility greatly. Fixing rats generally prolongs their lifespans anyway.
Both genders are equally friendly. Females are always on the go, so if you want a rat that settles down on your lap, like I said, males are the best. Females can be really funny and super cute though, plus they're much easier to train.
It all depends on what you're looking for.
Males and female rats are both eaqually affectionate, and ultimately it is all about personal preference. Males tend to have a musky odor, resulting from male hormones, though it's not unpleasant at all. Males are also larger than females and easier to hold, and tend to get lazy at around six months old, making them perfect lap pets. Males tend to scent mark- leaving a trail of urine marks along their people's arms or furnishings so this may deter you from purchasing boys, however most rat people realize that a little bit of pee won't hurt them.
Females have a sweeter odor similar to cut grass, or hay. They move faster, and maintain their playfulness throughout their lifetime. As far as cage odors- neither rat will produce a urine smell like other small rodents do if the cage is well maintained with weekly cleanings.
Ideally you should get two or three rats as rats are always happiest and more social when they live a colony.
