Answers:
ok may i suggest you go around yard sales, a lot of people sell cages, very cheap, around $20
look at the local .newspaper as well. the more you save the happyer mother will be .
Oh my gosh you don't need $70. Buy a big rubbermaid container and put bedding in it. You don't need a lid and he can't climb out.
Most of the time the cages at a local pet shop is under $70.00.
I found mine online though.
Ebay would be a good place to check. : )
You can make guinea pig cages with cubes and coroplasts. These cages are big and spacious. Once you have the things that you need they don't cost that much money to run... I don't know the exact price as this will depend on how much room you want for your guinea pig and in turn how many cubes and coroplasts you will need. Check out the site below for help if you want to pursue this type of cage.

From my experience you don't need a closed in hutch if it is inside, you just need to make sure that it is high enough as guinea pigs can jump. Don't ever let someone tell you that they cant.
If the hutch is going to be outside then you are looking at a bit more money. You see you have to make sure that the hutch is suitable to the weather conditions and this can be a bit more. My hutch cost $120. This was because I had to have it outside, (I keep it under the patio).
The other thing that you need to be careful of is; make sure that you don't have wire on the bottom of the hutch. This may be cheaper but the vet bills won't!! Wire on the bottom can lead to broken limbs.
Good Luck:)
Usually an adult guinea pig requires two feet of space, that's all one needs. And cages aren't that hard to find, just go to pets mart or your local pet store.
You can build your own cage for less than the price of a very small pet store cage. See http://www.guineapigcages.com/ for details.
Once I had the three supplies: cubes, coroplast %26 nylon zip ties, I built my cage in 20 minutes. They are easy to clean, well ventilated, %26 provide the adequate space your piggie will need. Mine was less than $50.
This is the very best gift you can give your piggie. It will keep him happy %26 healthy!
Best of luck!
go to this;

the small 2x3 is just over the minimum 4 one guinea pig. its the most recommended cage cos its easy to clean etc. and its just under $70 plus shipping!! or to make the budget even lower look around the site and it'll tell u how to make one
1- Piggies are social, they won't be near as happy until they have a same-species roomie. But make sure you get a same sex or neutered friend! Also, avoid pet shops or you may end up bringing home a pregnant female. Check your area shelters/rescues, or petfinder/craigslist for a piggie that needs a home first!
2- C%26C Cages Are The Best! Ours absolutely flipped out when we put him in there, and still popcorns like crazy! Recommended size for a poor lonesome [no guilt trip here nope nope] little piggie is 2x3 grids, or appx 27" x 41" if you get a roomie then you should upgrade to 2x4 - 27" x 56" A cage that size from a store would cost massive bucks, but you can built one for SO much less. Check out the GPcages site, it's SUPER easy and your pig/s will just be gloriously happy! ;-)
When I got my Ellie at petsmart I bought a "starter cage kit" it cost $45 it came with guinea pig food, hay, bedding, two toy bells, health chews, and the cage. its a fabulous deal!
Build a C%26C cage! I built 2 HUGE cages for $45 dollars. $20 for the coroplast and 25 for a couple of boxes cubes from Target! They are fun to build b/c you can design the layout however you want! It was very easy too. I am moving in a few weeks and I am excited that I get to build new layouts for my boys! www.cavycages.com
I suggest at a flea market or yard sale or newspaper, because I buyed one from Super pets it was$100 and 2 small. So I have 2 buy a new 1.
