A pet rat?

I have been trying to convince my parents to get me a rat, but they won't. I've had TONS of hamsters so I'm familiar with rodents and I LOVE rats, but for some reason my mom keeps saying no because SHE doesn't like their tail.
It's a stupid reason, I think. How can I convince them to let me have one?
Answers:
I've actually had 5 pet rats in the last 4 years. The average life span is about 2-4 years and the oldest rat to ever live was 8.
They make REALLY awesome pets and you can let them around your house and they're really funny to watch.
You can litterbox train them and teach them commands.Trust me, two of the five we owned were hyper, or as we joked, said they were ADD or something, and they were hilarious.
Trust, get your parents to do some research and they'll fall in love with the little critters.
i dont know but i have 27 rats
tell her you want a tattooo. she will freak out. then say how bout a rat instead

Btw spazrats is a Y!A user and is excellent to talk to about anything rat-related.
Take them to petsmart and have an associate tell them how great rats are as pets. They are extremely intelligent, can be potty trained, learn tricks, and are calm and affectionate. They come in different colours and tend not to bite like hamsters. They are also much cleaner then hamsters, grooming themselves almost constantly. If you are really serious about getting a rat. tail-less varieties are available, but they are quite expensive. http://www.ratspacnw.org/images/tailless...

ew u want a rat i hate their tail
but yo u can try beging
My mom hates rat tails too. I'm probably getting a Guinea Pig at the end of the month because i was luckly able to convince them. What I did is a bunch of reseach to show them that I really want to do this. About a year ago I was going to get a bunny but at the last min my paremts said no so I was honest with them and told them I wasn't in for a dissapointment. I just talked to my dad and he said yes because I reaseached and had a great answer for ever question he had. Come up with ways to show your mom that she isn't going to have to take care of the rat so she wont have to worry about the way it looks. [: Hope that helps. Hope it works [:
well my sister got a rat because her hamster died and she beged my mom to buy her a rat, even though my mom hated the idea she did it anyway so try looking realy sad,no im just kidding try to convince of a great a pet rat can be and that theyre is a verriety of differences between wild rats and fancy rats as most call them, maybe if you ask our parents to come with you to a pet shop and ask a worker if you can ameby hold a rat, that would be a chance to show youre parents that rats can be more fasinating then some people even bother to try and see.
Hey! i love ur name!
I call it mum syndrome. Iv only ever met one mum without it.
Mum syndrome is when a person is creeped out by small rodents and HATES rats! Id say ur mum has mum syndrome but dosnt want to admit it. Im sorry but i havent found a way around it. Im allowd a mouse but my mum dosnt like him! Im my house rats are OFF LIMITS!
There is a tailless variety of rat. You can tell your mom about them. They are getting rather popular. There's probably a breeder in your area that either has them or can refer you to someone who has.
I had the same exact problem with my mom. She didn't like the thought of the tail either. I made sure to do a lot of research before downright asking her. Here are a few things told my mom that won her over:
Rats are one of the cleanest pets you can own.
They're very playful and intelligent.
They very seldom bite their owners.
They're relatively inexpensive to care for.
They love to hide (so your mom would probably rarely see it).
They're mainly nocturnal.
They've got a personality that's like a combination of cat and dog.
They're actually affectionate.
My mom knew how badly I wanted one and told me that so long as I didn't bring it in the room where she was it was fine. But eventually curiosity got the better of her and she fell in love. She still to this day doesn't care for the tail but her personality is too fun not to love. Make sure you know your facts and emphasize that rats are MUCH nicer than hamsters. Good luck!
